You’ve heard the stories… I grew up on them. My trips home from the library were filled with books such as Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (affiliate link), I was obsessed with Stephen King books and movies, and also looked forward to watching Unsolved Mysteries every chance I got. Anything scary or creepy has always fascinated me, so earlier this year I set out to create a series of photoshoots to capture some of my favorite urban legends from my youth. I worked with some amazing models for this project and it was a lot of fun trying to see how far I could push my creative boundaries while bringing these stories to life… I even discovered that listening to my favorite Horror podcast on itunes really helped to get me in the mood for creating these types of images (The NoSleep Podcast for those who are interested!)
Our first story is the Vanishing Hitchhiker… In this story, a driver is alone late at night and sees a young girl walking along alone searching for a ride. After driving for awhile the driver realizes that his passenger has disappeared completely. In some variations of the story, she tells the driver her address and he lets her off there, only for him to realize later that she has left a shawl or some other article of clothing in the seat. He visits the address where he left her the next day to return the item, only to be told by the resident that the woman he is looking for has been dead for years.
